Experience
Victoria Street’s significance is enhanced by a major civic square outside the Town Hall spanning the road and footpaths. The square celebrates the attractive heritage buildings and is a major meeting place in town. Visitors and residents rest and relax within the green spaces provided by seasonal plantings. Friends meet under the shade trees.  The square is regularly used for events such as markets, festivals and other seasonal celebrations. Well-positioned lighting promotes its use in the evening and encourages people to linger at the café bordering the square.

Well-designed signage informs residents and visitors of key destinations such as Council Offices, of walkways that connect through and beyond the shops and ensures that toilets and other amenities are easily located. Banners support the promotion of seasonal events and celebrations.

The Town Square
The hierarchy of use gives precedence to pedestrians. Granite paving creates an even surface across the street. A copse of trees, including existing mature specimen provides shade. The location of green screens and seating provides a boundary between Court and Square uses. Casual seating allows for socialising. Café use spreads into the Square. Small-scale narrative sculpture promotes interest in local history. Lighting and overhead structure create ambience for events and seasonal celebration.
