Fitzroy Street

Fitzroy Street

Fitzroy Street is a key street delineating the transition from the Sport and Recreation and Health and Wellbeing precincts to the CBD. The Masterplan intends to enhance the type of community services and businesses that are currently located in the street, creating a Lifestyle precinct.

Design Features:

·         An avenue of street trees creating shade and seasonal variety
·         Renewed footpath with line markings encouraging interaction for children and families
·         Seating
·         Planter boxes and street corner gardens bringing the natural landscape into the town
·         Structure insertions that locate street activity – at an outdoor cafĂ©, walkway and rest area
·         The entry to an outdoor gallery on vacant sites

Experience
Fitzroy Street marks the transition from shopping hub to the recreational area of the town at the Sir John Gorton Precinct.

Largely the area for service oriented businesses and premises, it has a more open ambience made distinctive by a double allee of trees on either side. Residents enjoy their seasonal beauty and their ‘country in the town’ impact. Attractive planters, shade structures and seating encourage businesses to activate the street frontage. It is a pleasure to stroll down Fitzroy Street, and break away through a new walkway to the shopping hub of Victoria Street.

Vacant sites in the street are activated with interim uses. The walls of vacant buildings act as galleries for temporary street art and lighting displays. Exercise classes and play activities promoting health and wellbeing are given priority.
